Two Drivers Injured in Semi Crash on Interstate 65

In far south Lake County, Indiana State Police Lowell District report two people were injured in a two semi crash on southbound Interstate 65 five miles south of the Lowell exit Wednesday afternoon.  A news release from Indiana State Police Lowell District says a preliminary investigation revealed at about 4:40 pm one of the drivers for unknown reasons braked, went off to the right, lost control, struck hit a semi that was parked on the outer shoulder then jackknifed blocking all southbound lanes.  The driver in the first semi police say was transported from the scene with serious injuries, and the driver in the parked semi was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Troopers say all southbound lanes were closed and traffic was diverted off at the Lowell exit for removal of the injured, vehicles, and clean-up of the roadway.  Police say about 90 gallons of diesel fuel spilled.  Officials say all lanes reopened at 7:50 p.m.   Crown Point Fire and EMS, Newton County Fire and EMS, Lowell Fire and Tri-Creek EMS, and Indiana Department of Transportation also responded.
