A series of public meetings on a proposed South Shore fare increase began this week. The operators of the South Shore are considering an across-the-board fare increase of two-and-a-half percent a year over two years, rounded to the nearest quarter, to be dedicated to capital/infrastructure investments. If approved the new fares would take effect in June of this year and June 2017, and would apply to all stations except Hegewisch.
The public is invited to a meeting tonight at 7pm, in the NICTD Administrative Office Board Room in Chesterton. The public meetings in Hammond and Michigan City will take place next week.
