In Valparaiso, the longest running soap box derby in the world resumes for its 75th running downtown on June 26th. Director Mike Bottom says the cars are kid-assembled and run a downhill gravity fed race of 1739 feet from 20 to 27 miles per hour on Lincolnway from Greenwich Road to Morgan Boulevard. The derby is in dire need of two-47 foot empty trailers to store and haul the soap box cars. For more information call Race Director Mike Bottom at 219-464-0445. The soap box derby finals are at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio in July. Here is a link for more details on the Northwest Indiana Soap Box Derby.
