In Lake County, Goodwill has announced the May 2021 events at their Community Career Centers:

• Masks will be worn by all Goodwill Staff
• All guests must wear a mask

• Google IT Support Professional Certificate – Extended thru July

This program builds on your IT foundations to help you take your career to the next level. It is designed to provide IT professionals with in-demand skills — including Python, Git, and IT automation — that can help you advance your career.

Goodwill Career Centers are offering the NorthStar Digital Literacy Project Basic Computer Skills Certification. In the training you will complete numerous tasks that will be assessed online through self-guided modules. Included are basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in the areas of Basic Computer Use, Internet Basics, Windows and Mac Operating Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint along with Email, Social Media and Information Literacy. We offer Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Platinum level certificates upon demonstrating competency and passing each level.

 

Resolve Human Resources Hiring Event
• Tuesday, May 4th / 11:30 am to 2:30 pm

Resolve Human Resources serves as a scalable human resource infrastructure for businesses of any size. The staffing and recruiting company will have open interviews and employment assignments available upon interview with recruiters. Resumes can be submitted prior to this event and all walk-ins are accepted.

Gary Goodwill Hiring Event
• Wednesday, May 5th / 11:30 am to 2:00 pm
The Gary Goodwill Community Career Center will host a hiring event to fill positions for the store and warehouse. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply prior to the event, so on the spot interviews can be held with the management team of the warehouse and / or store. Start dates will be available for some positions if hired during the interview process. Any individuals who have not completed the application online prior to coming to the event are welcome to use the Career Center computers to do so.

Basic Computer Skills Workshop
• Wednesday, May 12th / 10:00 am to 11:00 am
• Wednesday, May 26th / 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Do you have learning barriers with utilizing the computer? Do you want to learn how to use the computer on a basic skill level? Feel free to attend the Basic Computer Skills workshop to learn computer essentials, starting with the mouse and ports. Workshops are offered once within the month and clients will have the opportunity to earn a certificate.

All Career Center Events are free and open to the public. The Gary Community Career Center is located at the corner of West Ridge and Clark Roads

NorthStar Digital Literacy Training

In this training, you will perform various tasks that will be assessed online through self-guided modules. Indeed Assessments
• Monday through Friday / 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Assessments will be offered in the focus areas of critical thinking, attention to detail, problem solving, data entry, customer focus and bookkeeping.

Staff Source Job Fair
• Wednesday, May 5th / 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Staff Source will conduct on the spot interviews for forklift operators, general laborers, packaging and receptionists’ positions for the Northwest Indiana and Illinois areas.

Creating Brochures with PowerPoint
• Wednesday, May 5th / 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
A brochure is a paper advertisement used to generate awareness and spread marketing information. Brochures can be in the form of a leaflet, pamphlet, or booklet. In this workshop you will learn how to create a brochure on PowerPoint. This how-to workshop will teach you the basics of making an attractive brochure quickly and easily.

PowerPoint Slides for Beginners
• Wednesday, May 12th / 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
Learn how to create high-impact presentations with Google Slides. Those attending will begin with a template or can create a new slideshow from scratch. Then, they will begin adding and formatting text, working with images and shapes, inserting videos, diagrams, and charts.

Creating PDF Files from Microsoft Office
• Wednesday, May 26th / 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
Learn how to easily convert Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint documents to PDF using the Create PDF tool in Acrobat DC. You can also convert documents without leaving the application using the Acrobat Task Ribbon in Office for Windows or the Print Command in Windows or Mac OS.

All Career Center Events are free and open to the public.
