UPDATE: Boil Advisory Issued in East Chicago

Tuesday September 3, 2019, UPDATE: Effective immediately, the water boil advisory previously issued by the East Chicago Water Department has been cancelled and no longer in effect for the residents of East Chicago, Indiana. Residents and customers are urged to share this information with those who may not have received this message directly. Due to loss of pressure in the distribution lines, a WATER BOIL ADVISORY is issued until further notice for the residents of East Chicago, Indiana. The advisory will remain in effect until water samples confirm the water is safe to drink. While this advisory is in effect, customers are urged to: Boil tap water vigorously for at least five minutes and then let it cool before using it for cooking, drinking, making ice, washing uncooked foods, etc. Residents and customers are urged to share this information with those who may not have received this message directly. School officials say all East Chicago Schools are closed Tuesday September 3, 2019, due to the boil order that was issued Monday September 2nd. The announcement from school officials also said administration and maintenance should report to work
