Region residents are invited to join Jennifer Johnson of Wild Indigo and Audubon Great Lakes for a beginning birding class on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education. Park officials say fall and winter are a great time to learn more about the incredible diversity of birds that use the Indiana Dunes as a migration refueling stop. Jennifer will begin inside the center and, weather permitting, will then lead a short birding hike in Miller Woods. There will be additional classes on Saturdays, November 16 and December 21. Binoculars and warm drinks will be provided. Please dress for the weather. The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national park at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary.
