Region residents are invited to take part in the annual National Public Lands Day cleanup event at Indiana Dunes National Park’s West Beach on September 24th, 9-11 am. Save the Dunes says this event will conclude a season of cleanups hosted on Lake Michigan by local company Mermaid Straw from April through September each year. Reusable gloves and bags will be provided and refreshments will be available. The news release from Save the Dunes said this month’s family friendly event is meant to highlight the reliance on single use plastic, plastic pollution that winds up being left on beaches, and how this waste affects Northwest Indiana’s environment.
