Friends of Indiana Dunes Native Plant Sale Pre-Order Only Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

In response to federal and state recommendations to stay at home to slow the spread of Coronavirus, the Friends of Indiana Dunes will offer their 24th Annual Native Plant Sale as a pre-order only sale. There will be no open shopping of plant material this year. The Native Plant Sale order forms are available for printing at the Friends of Indiana Dunes website (dunefriends.org). A link to the order form can also be found at their Facebook page as part of their daily highlighted native plant. Those who need a hard copy mailed, have questions or need assistance concerning the order form, are asked to contact the Native Plant sale committee chair, Angel Gochee-Goins, by calling her at 219-707-3617.

The deadline for submitting a completed native plant sale pre-order form has been extended until April 18, and phone and e-mail are requested on the pre-order form in case of additional changes. Orders are filled in the sequence in which they are received.

Due to the continued closure of the Indiana Dunes Tourism visitor center, the pick-up location for the Native Plant Sale orders has been changed to the Friends new office located on the northwest corner of Mineral Springs and Oak Hill roads in Porter, Indiana. Pre-orders will be assigned a specific pick-up time for Saturday, May 2 so social distancing can be maintained in accordance with CDC guidelines.

“This year’s sale consists of more than 110 native plant species, including large selections of woodland flowering plants and ferns; dry, medium and wet prairie flowering plants; as well as grasses, shrubs and trees. All varieties come in pots and most species are native to northwest Indiana, northeast Illinois, and southwest Michigan. Adding native plants will not only increase the beauty of your landscape but also attract more native pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds to your property,” the announcement said.

All Native Plant Sale profits will support the mission of the Friends of Indiana Dunes which is to enhance and foster understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the dunes through financial and volunteer support of the educational, interpretive and resource management programs. Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana Dunes State Park and Dunes Learning Center are the beneficiaries of their support.
