The Humane Society Calumet Area says Region residents can learn about one of the most important creatures on the planet, the honey bee, during Honey Bee Awareness/Action Day, hosted by Humane Society Calumet Area’s Moraine Ridge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (MRWRC) on August 20 from noon to 3 p.m.
The program will feature educational talks, informational booths and activities and crafts for children at the center, located at 570 N. 450 E., Valparaiso, Ind. A local beekeeper will give a presentation on bees and answer any questions. Educational talks will be held inside at the education center located next to the rehabilitation center.
Attendees can learn why honey bees are important to local gardens and to the environment as a whole. Plus, MRWRC’s experts will answer questions about threats to the bee populations and what it would be like without bees.
