Valparaiso Says Residents Can Help Monarch Butterflies During Autumn

In Valparaiso, a way to help monarch butterflies now before they make their journey back next year. A post at the city’s Valparaiso Now Facebook page says fall is the best time to plant milkweed, and residents can access free milkweed seeds at Valparaiso City Hall on Lincolnway and at the Valpo Parks office on Campbell Road. In April, Valparaiso became Indiana’s first Monarch City USA, recognized for its efforts to foster habitats and awareness for monarch butterflies. The city noted the species is threatened worldwide as areas of milkweed and nectar plants have been vanishing, and Valparaiso promotes these habitats in city parks and neighborhoods.
