Region residents can celebrate the arrival of spring at a special hike this weekend. Indiana Dunes National Park is hosting a two-hour ranger-led First Day of Spring hike at its Heron Rookery on Sunday, March 19, 2023, 1 to 3 pm Central Time to not only welcome the vernal equinox but also discover what woodland flowers are in bloom. A news release from the National Park also says the Heron Rookery may be the best location in the Region to see spring wildflowers. Meet in the Heron Rookery east parking lot in Michigan City. Indiana Dunes National Park has an entrance fee of $25 per car for a 1–to-7-day pass. A $45 annual pass is also available. Purchase passes or pay the entrance fee at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center or at www.recreation.gov/sitepass/indu . Veteran, Access, and 4th Grade passes are available for free.
