Humane Indiana Wildlife 2022 Festival of Owls

In Valparaiso, the annual Festival of Owls hosted by Humane Indiana Wildlife Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Porter County Expo Center, 9 am to 4 pm. Humane Indiana Director of Wildlife Nicole Harmon says the day-long family-friendly event features presentations from eight educators across the state. Ttickets for the event are available at . Eight owl species are native to Indiana.

This year, Festival of Owls participants can meet owls representing all eight species native to the Hoosier state. Many of these owls are part of Humane Indiana Wildlife’s Ambassador Animal program. These previously injured or orphaned owls were rehabilitated by Humane Indiana Wildlife but cannot survive on their own and receive lifetime care at the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Valparaiso. Other birds of prey will also be present.

Festival of Owls will also feature a local artisan and vendor marketplace and an expanded kids’ activity and arts center, thanks in part to support from the Indiana Arts Commission.
Educational partners for the event include Indiana Audubon Society, Indiana Dunes State Park, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Hoots to Howls Wildlife Rehab, and Wildcat Creek Wildlife Rehab. Izaak Walton League, Shirley Heinze Land Trust, Porter County Recycling, LaPorte County Soil and Water, and Art Barn will participate with booths and activities.

Each year Humane Indiana impacts more than 25,000 animals and 50,000 people in northwest Indiana through the Humane Indiana shelter/adoption center, clinic, pet food/supply pantry, foster care, animal homelessness prevention initiatives, and wildlife rehabilitation center.
