The National Park Service and Indiana Dunes Tourism have partnered to offer a variety of regular, no-hassle volunteer options for those looking to help out at Indiana Dunes National Park. Opportunities are available nearly every day of the week and include stewardship, restoration, park clean-up, and more. Stop by any day of the week from 10 am to 4 pm at either the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center on North State Road 49 in Porter, Indiana, or the Paul H. Douglas Center on North Lake Street in Gary for the “Trash Trekkers” program. “Grab a trash bag and help keep our beaches and trails clean,” the news release said.
Or join a ranger on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 9 am to 12 noon for a morning of stewardship in your national park. Meet at the Park Connection Office, near the Chellberg Farm parking lot. To learn more about this month’s project, visit www.indianadunes.com/volunteer . Remember to dress appropriately for working outside; wear comfortable outdoor clothing and shoes and bring water. The national park says it will provide gear and training to anyone interested in lending a hand to preserve the Indiana Dunes.
