In Lake County, Legacy Foundation recently announced Cedar Lake as Indiana’s first “Heart & Soul Community.” In the new initiative, a news release said the town will get training, technical assistance, and up to $80,000 in funding from Merrillville-based Legacy Foundation to implement the process and support resident-driven projects. Community Heart & Soul is a national nonprofit. Julie Zasada, Executive Director of the Cedar Lake Historical Association, will serve as the town’s project Coordinator. Cedar Lake Community Heart & Soul kicks off with a volunteer training event Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10 AM – 12 noon at the Cedar Lake Public Library and those interested are asked to register online.
