073010thisbandQ: This famous late '60s group started out as the house band at New Jersey's legendary Peppermint Lounge and called themselves THE STARLIGHTERS. They backed a regional singer named JOEY DEE and hit the charts with the classic dance tune, “THE PEPPERMINT TWIST,” as Joey Dee & the Starlighters. They soon after changed their name and became quite famous and successful. Who is this band?

A: THE RASCALS – who also used the name THE YOUNG RASCALS for a short while and racked up a lot of hits between 1966 and 1972, including the U.S. #1 singles “Good Lovin'” (1966), “Groovin'” (1967), and “People Got To Be Free” (1968). The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
