MTV Trailblazer Pat Benatar Reflects On Her Life

061610benatar

Pat Benatar is telling her life story in the new memoir, "Between A Heart And A Rock Place."  When the 57-year-old was a guest on HLN's "The Joy Behar Show" on Tuesday, she said that forging a career in music as a woman was tough at times.  She also remembered being the first woman ever with a video in rotation on MTV when the network launched in 1981.

The Grammy-winner added that within a week of MTV's launch, her own career took flight.  Benatar also shared with Behar that she turned down an audition at Julliard to marry her then-boyfriend, Dennis Benatar.  The couple split in 1979, but Benatar kept his name and made it famous.  She later married guitarist Neil "Spyder" Giraldo, to whom she is still married.  Harper Collins released Benatar's "Between A Heart And A Rock Place" this week.

Tony Iommi says he's only planning one tribute concert to remember the late Ronnie James Dio.  In an interview with "Metal Hammer," Iommi confirmed details about the show to benefit the Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Cancer Fund.  Scheduled for July 24th, the show will take place in London's Victoria Park as part of the High Voltage Festival.  Iommi's fellow Heaven & Hell bandmates Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice are scheduled to join him on stage.  Musical guests at the tribute will include former Deep Purple rocker Glenn Hughes and Norway's Jorn Lande, who fronts the metal band, Masterplan.  Iommi says, quote, "This will be the first and only tribute we're doing to Ronnie. Not that that's wrong, but we feel that it would be really nice to do this for him. And he'd really like that, I know he would."

Ronnie James Dio died on May 16th after a battle with stomach cancer.  During his career, he sang lead vocals for Black Sabbath, Elf, Rainbow, Heaven & Hell, and his namesake band, Dio.

Police Catch Up With Fake AC/DC Concert Promoter

An Australian woman who allegedly passed herself off as an AC/DC concert promoter is facing criminal charges.  The "Daily Telegraph" reports that Leanne Herbert is facing four counts of obtaining money by deception in Australia.  Herbert is charged with collecting over 120-thousand dollars from fans of the hard rock band back in 2005.  Among Herbert's alleged victims were a cancer institute, a school, and individual investors.  The 41-year-old's five years on the lam ended last month when AC/DC's management said they'd never heard of Herbert.

Herbert is currently being held at Emu Plains Correctional Center in Australia.  She is scheduled to file a plea next Monday, June 21st by video.

Former Jackson Advisor Believes Michael Killed For Catalog

A former financial advisor to Michael Jackson thinks the singer was killed for his music catalog.  Leonard Rowe, a longtime Jackson friend, tells RadarOnline.com that the King of Pop once told him, quote, "They want my catalog, Rowe  --  and they will kill me for it."  While Rowe won't name who allegedly wanted to kill Jackson for his music rights, he does say "people wanted that catalog."  Rowe says, quote, "Michael said he wanted to keep it for his children, no matter what type of financial situation he [came] across he would always hold onto his catalog."

Jackson paid over 47-million-dollars for the catalog in 1985.  A decade later, Sony paid the singer 150-million-dollars for half of the rights to the catalog.  The purchase resulted in the formation of Sony/ATV.  Now, Jackson's half of the catalog is estimated to be worth one-billion-dollars.

David Furnish: Sir Elton Was "Surprised" To Get Limbaugh Invite

David Furnish is speaking out on Sir Elton John's appearance at Rush Limbaugh's wedding earlier this month.  According to People.com, the Rocket Man's life partner says Sir Elton was surprised to get an invite from the conservative radio personality.  Furnish adds, quote, "And then, when it turned out to be a genuinely sincere invitation -- Elton said, 'Life is about building bridges, not walls." Once at the event, the openly-gay rocker told wedding guests that his appearance was like the extension of an "olive branch."

Furnish made the comments while attending the 64th Annual Tony Awards in New York on Sunday.  "Next Fall" -- the play that he and John produced -- was up for two awards, Best Play and Best Direction of a Play. "Next Fall" lost in both categories to the big winner of the night, "Red."

Devo Marks Album Release With A "Cat Party"

061610devo

Devo marked its comeback this week as any new wave rockers would -- with a "cat party."  USAToday.com reports that the band celebrated its release of "Something For Everybody" on Tuesday with a nine hour listening party exclusively for felines.  The media event was broadcast on UStream and featured 20 cat guests.  "Something For Everybody" -- including, presumably, cats -- is Devo's first studio LP in 20 years.

Devo's other media events this week are arguably more conventional.  The Mark Mothersbaugh-led band will appear on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" tonight and on "Live with Regis and Kelly" on Friday.

Poison's "Unskinny Bop" To Appear On "Fat Chicks" Album

One of Poison's biggest hits is slated to appear on an album that celebrates voluptuous women.  The Bret Michaels Band's Pete Evick will cover "Unskinny Bop," the chart-topping single originally performed by Poison frontman Bret Michaels himself, according to Blabbermouth.net.  The track will appear on a tribute LP called "Whole Lotta Love: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks."  Joining Evick on the recording are bass player Ray Scheuring and drummer Chuck Fanslau, both of whom also tour with Michaels.  "Whole Lotta Love" will feature new versions of songs praising the fuller female physique.

Evick says, quote, "Even though 'Unskinny Bop' has nothing to do with unskinny girls, most people seem to think it does.  As such, all it took was a few tweaks to the lyrics to make this song fit the album concept."

Ozzy Osbourne Leads World Record Scream

Ozzy Osbourne is now a Guinness World Record holder.  The singer, along with over 52-thousand fans at Los Angeles' Dodgers Stadium, took part in the longest scream recorded with the "Scream For A Cure."  The event took place last Friday in the middle of the fifth inning as the Dodgers played the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  It was part of the Dodgers' 3rd annual "ThinkCure! Weekend" supporting cancer research.  The record was verified by Stuart Claxton of the Guinness organization.

The charitable activity also tied in well with Ozzy's CD promotion.  The veteran rocker's current single is "Let Me Hear You Scream," which is from his upcoming album "Scream."  The disc will be in stores on June 22nd.
