Indiana DNR News Release (Nov 29 2012): Multiple Arson Wildfires Reported on Jasper Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area
Volunteer fire departments from Wheatfield and San Pierre, along with Jasper County Sheriff Deputies and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to 8 separate wildfires that were burning on Jasper Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area shortly after 1:30 pm on 11/29/12. The fires were set in Jasper County along CR 400 E between CR 850 N and CR 1100 N and on property belonging to The Nature Conservancy off CR 300 E. Another fire was later reported on CR 500 E north of SR 10. The fires were not contained until around 5:00 pm and burned a total 5 to 6 acres. Investigators on scene believe the fires were deliberately set by an unknown person or persons. Coincidentally, the fires occurred in the same area that several arson fires were reported in the spring of 2012. It is unknown if the same person is responsible for the fires.
Anyone that may have information about these arson fires is urged to contact Indiana Conservation Officer Central Dispatch at 812-837-9536 or the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.
