Portage Police reported this afternoon that they have a woman in custody, and are searching for the alleged shooter, regarding the death of a 72 year old Portage man who was shot multiple times in the front yard of his home on November 1st. Portage Police Chief Troy Williams said today during a press conference that 42 year old Sheurice D. Major, of Portage, was arrested on charges of murder, and conspiracy to commit murder, and that authorities are currently pursuing the alleged shooter, 20 year old Dontaye D. Singletary, of Gary, on the same charges. Chief Williams says officers are currently working to track down Singletary, and that the police department has been in contact with the U-S Marshall's Service for their assistance in locating him. Chief Williams says this case is an isolated incident, and is not believed to be gang related. Police report Singletary is believed to be the shooter from an incident earlier that day in Gary, in which Carl Griffith Senior, a tow truck driver, was shot at on the 33-hundredth block of Kentucky Street, after he pulled up to the home of a woman who had called saying she wanted to sell her car. Chief Williams says an investigation determined Major was involved in the incident, and after numerous interviews were conducted, met with prosecutors to authorize her arrest. Chief Williams offered condolences to the Griffith family, but no further information was made available, as an investigation continues.
