Members of various veterans organizations gathered for a news conference called by American Legion Post 54 in Hobart Monday night. Post Public Relations Officer Martin King says the Post's Vice Commander, a 65-year-old disabled Marine veteran, was at a Hobart establishment serving an American Legion suspension notice when he was allegedly attacked.
The veteran, Earl McDowell, was reportedly treated and released at an area hospital for a sore back and abrasions. There are conflicting versions of what happened, according to published comments by one of the patrons of the lounge where the incident occurred. The incident remains under police investigation.
