INDOT reports crews are patrolling state roads in northwest Indiana, watching for snow and ice in anticipation of the first snow storm of the year. Officials say the first snow fall typically brings a higher rate of crashes and slide-offs as some drivers forget to consider the winter weather road conditions. Drivers are being asked to reduce their speed and increase the distance between yourself and other vehicles, especially INDOT's yellow trucks. INDOT will continue to monitor multiple developing forecasts, as well as road and bridge pavement sensors, to deploy the needed personnel, equipment and materials ahead of any changes in precipitation and temperatures.
