Gary Schools Ordered to Lease Building

A Lake Superior Court judge says the Gary Community Schools must lease an unused building to a local charter school for one-dollar. The order says per state law the school corporation shall "immediately" lease the old Ernie Pyle Elementary School to LEAD College Preparatory charter school in Gary. The issue has been in the courts for several months. In a separate issue, the charter for LEAD College Prep was among those not being renewed by Ball State this year – LEAD is appealing that.
