Schererville Police are investigating some vehicle thefts after police were dispatched to the 31-hundred block of Wimbledon Drive at 4:45 this morning. Police report officers found the complainant’s vehicle had their window shattered, but a search of the area came up empty. Police report officers found a garage open at another Wimbledon Drive address, and that a vehicle was broken into on the 21-hundred block of nearby Springhill Drive, which had 16-hundred dollars worth of stereo equipment stolen from it. Police say officers were then informed that a second resident on Wimbledon Drive reported her purse missing, which she believed to have left in her kitchen. Patrol Commander Brian Neyhart says to try an avoid becoming victims of these types of crimes residents should not leave items of value, like electronics, in plain view, because thieves will break the windows to get to them. He also suggested taking your garage door openers in with you, so thieves cannot use that to get into your garage to take items, but ultimately he says to lock your vehicle.
