City of Crown Point News Release:
December 28th is Deadline to Submit Applications for Rental Housing
In June 2012, the City of Crown Point passed a Rental Housing Ordinance requiring all rental properties within the Crown Point City limits to be registered.
The City established the Annual Registration and Inspection Program and Minimum Standards for Rental Housing to ensure “public health, safety, and general welfare of the community.” The program will protect “the character and stability of residential neighborhoods and land values by insuring that all residential rental units comply with local building and zoning codes, property maintenance codes, and all other applicable regulations adopted by the State of Indiana.”
On an annual basis, a fee of $50.00 for each building and a fee of $20.00 for each unit contained therein will be assessed. The City will issue a Registration Permit for each address registered and that is found to be in compliance.
Applications for the Annual Rental Registration & Inspection Program as well as a copy of Ordinance No.: 2011-12-26 are available at the Planning and Building Department located on the south side of City Hall at 102 East Clark Street.
As this is the initial roll out of the Ordinance, the City would like to remind all landlords to submit rental applications no later than December 28, 2012. Properties found not to be registered with the City can be fined violations up to $100.00 a day per address.
