Rensselaer Woman Killed in Crash

In Wheatfield Tuesday evening, authorities say a 64-year-old Rensselaer woman was pronounced dead at the scene after a two-vehicle crash on State Road 10, about a half-mile east of County Road 350 West. The Jasper County Sheriffs Department says Gloria Jones had to be extricated by Wheatfield Fire Rescue Units, and was taken by ambulance to a landing zone near Kankakee Valley High School to meet with a Medivac helicopter when rescue crews determined Jones had succumbed to her injuries. Police say an investigation revealed the car driven by Jones apparently suddenly went into the opposite lane of travel, and a collision occurred between her vehicle and an oncoming box truck. When police arrived they say the truck was on fire, but sheriffs deputies were able to keep the fire from spreading to the passenger car. Police say the other driver denied any further medical assistance at the scene.
