Burglary Turns into Drug Arrest

Newton County Sheriff Dept A burglary at a home in Newton County turned into a drug arrest for the homeowner. The Newton County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call of a burglary in progress, around 5am, on October 4th, in Goodland, with the caller, the 47 year old homeowner, saying he had the suspect detained inside the home. Authorities say while conducting the burglary investigation, officers allegedly discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in plain view, and that the suspect, a 22 year old Goodland man, was reportedly in the process of taking stealing it. The Sheriff's Office says they recovered over a half-pound of suspected marijuana, packing materials, financial ledgers, and paraphernalia. The homeowner was arrested, along with the suspected burglar, and both taken into custody.
