A police pursuit has ended in a multi-vehicle crash shortly before 1 o'clock this afternoon at the intersection of US-30 and Broadway in Merrillville. The extent of possible injuries of those who may have been involved in the crash are not known at this time.
The Times is reporting that their technology manager, Joshua Kaiser witnessed the crash as he was turning off of Broadway onto U.S.30 and also saw the foot chase that followed.
Sgt. Patti van Til of the Lake County Sheriff's Department says Merrillville police started to pursue the vehicle for a traffic violation which quickly escalated when the vehicle slammed into numerous parked cars.
Sgt. van til says Merrillville called off the chase but Lake County started their own pursuit after spotting the vehicle on EB US-30 at Taft Street.
The offender who was captured after a brief foot pursuit is also wanted on warrant, but the Van Til did not immediately know the nature of the offense. Reports also say the offender is believed to have been under the influence of drugs.
