Power Out in Downtown South Bend

Indiana Michigan Power company officials say an underground fire late Thursday night is the reason power's out in downtown South Bend today, and some of the eight-hundred customers affected may not get electricity back until Sunday evening. The grid was taken offline as a precaution, utility officials say. Memorial Hospital in South Bend is also affected, operating on backup generators, and several patients have been transferred to other facilities.  Crews from Fort Wayne and Columbus, Ohio, are coming in to assist.
