Another sign winter is gone:  Spring turkey hunting season begins this Wednesday, April 23,  2014.  The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is expecting Indiana's 45th season to be close to last year in numbers to be harvested.  According to the DNR, hunters can take one male or bearded turkey in the spring season, which runs through May 11th.  A two-day youth season over the holiday weekend gave young hunters a chance to bag a bird before the regular season opens.  The DNR expects around 11,000 birds , "plus or minus" to be taken by hunters this year.  In 2013, hunters harvested 11,374 birds in 89 of Indiana’s 92 counties.
