A Porter County Sheriffs officer honored earlier this month for helping save the life of a newborn last December helped rescue another child this week. Sgt. Jeremy Chavez was just a few homes away when a woman dialed 911 after discovering her 21-month-old girl's lips had turned blue. Shirley Hollifield tells today's Times she was was still on the phone with the police dispatcher when Sgt. Chavez arrived one minute later and administered back blows and chest compressions. She says her little girl was transported to the hospital, and it's thought a fever from an ear infection may have caused a seizure. Just three months ago, Sgt. Chavez came to the aid of a four-week-old child who'd stopped breathing, performing CPR on the baby girl. Additionally, both times, Sgt. Chavez wasn't originally scheduled to be working and had switched shifts with someone else.
