Griffith Contemplating Rail Expansion Request

In Griffith, Congressman Pete Visclosky spoke before the Town Council Tuesday, stressing the need for local officials to commit dollars toward extending the South Shore to the south. Municipalities across Lake County are being asked to earmark revenues from a new local income tax to expand the commuter rail line to Dyer. Griffith approved a resolution that would keep most of those tax monies in town, for road and other expenses, leaving the door open to possibly contributing toward the South Shore project. Visclosky has been trying to get communities on board by the end of this month to move the long-talked about proposal forward.
