An increased police presence on roadways in the Region and around the state, beginning today. More than 250 Indiana law enforcement agencies -- including locally Valparaiso, Michigan City, LaPorte County, LaPorte and Trail Creek -- will be part of a major effort to crack down on impaired and dangerous driving. The enforcement period lasts through March 23rd, encompassing St. Patrick's Day and a number of March sporting events. Police say over the same period last year, there were 388 alcohol-related crashes in Indiana, including four crashes that killed four people. In 2012, police say there were 33 alcohol-related crashes in Indiana on St. Patrick's Day alone.
