A new “deputy” was recently added to the Lake County Sheriff's Department staff. Buddy is a six-month old Labrador Retriever mix donated by Sheriff John Buncich and is a partnership with the Lake County Prosecutor's Office. In the coming months he'll be trained to be a therapy dog, accompanying child victims during forensic interviews, depositions and court appearances.
A fundraiser to offset care and training costs involved with the therapy dog program takes place tomorrow, from 5-to-8pm, at Buddy-n-Pals Restaurant, in the 12-hundred block of East Summit Street, in Crown Point.
