The National Weather Service reports a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10am EST/9am CST tomorrow for Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper Counties and until 4pm EST/3pm CST for LaPorte, Starke and Pulaski Counties . Snow is expected to continue this evening with anywhere from one-to-four inches of accumulation possible. Southwest winds of 25-to-35 miles per hour, with gusts of 45-to-50 miles per hour expected tonight, causing blowing and drifting snow which will worsen with the addition of falling and accumulating snow. Roads will become hazardous, especially in open areas, where visibility will be reduced to near zero at times.
At last check, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security shows Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Pulaski Counties under a travel “Watch” meaning only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended. Starke County is under an “Advisory” which means routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
