The LaPorte County Board of Commissioners this afternoon issued a “Travel Watch” for LaPorte County. The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office reports conditions along LaPorte County roadways have deteriorated and very high winds and cold temperatures led to the closure of Johnson Road, between LaPorte and Michigan City.
The Sheriff's Office reports they are currently investigating a number of crashes and slide-offs and non-essential travel is making it hazardous for emergency responders.
A “Travel Watch” has also been issued for Lake, Porter and Pulaski Counties and means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public and only essential travel, such as to and from work, or in emergency situations, is recommended. Additional snow fall is expected late this afternoon and this evening, and sustained high winds are expected to make travel conditions even worse.
