Mayor James Snyder
The Mayor's Office in Portage has issued a statement in response to published criticism from some city council members over sending Portage plows to assist with Gary snow removal efforts this week. Some parts of Gary received about twenty-inches of snow in this week's lake effect that blasted north Lake County.
Press Release re: Assisting Gary with Snow Plows
Portage City Hall is currently receiving overwhelming support from the Portage residents on its efforts to assist Gary with snow plows during their crisis; for that Mayor Snyder is grateful. Residents have even offered financial aid. Mayor Snyder believes in the residents of Portage and today is just another day he is proud to be their Mayor.
We will always assist our neighbors in crisis; and each time we, do our City workers stand a little taller. Portage has the best workforce a Mayor could ask for, and they were proud to help.
Mayor Freeman-Wilson also deserves credit for her commitment to Gary and building relationships with neighboring communities. Our friendship and commitment to our children’s futures will stand the test of time. Without her strong, positive relationship, this assistance in crisis would not have been realized.
For many, the word “regionalism” is a lot of talk; for the Cities of Portage and Gary, it is action.
