An Illinois man was seriously injured after losing control of his semi this morning in Lake County. Indiana State Police Lowell Post reports just before 8:30am, the 31 year old semi driver was heading south in the right lane of I-65 when he lost control on the bridge that goes over State Road 2. The semi, which was pulling an empty flat bed trailer, began to jack-knife and went off the roadway to the west and backwards down a steep embankment until the tractor hit a tree on the driver's side. Emergency personnel had to extricate the driver, who was pinned inside, and he was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital for treatment.
State Police say that area was receiving snow and road conditions were icy and slick at the time of the crash, with a strong cross wind. They ask drivers to be diligent to the conditions of the roads and to remember, road conditions don't cause crashes, speeding too fast for conditions does.
